We’ve all heard of herbal bitters taken for digestion, that’s a classic herbal tonic. Below are a few of my own favourite herbal tonics and healing tonic recipes…
Herbal Tonics
Sweet Tart Cider Sipper (good digestive tonic)
This is a great little drink to help aid digestion, as well as helping to control excess candida yeast growth in the intestines. I love the sweet-tart flavor!
Try sipping one about 10 minutes before you have a meal. You can take this before each meal. Just don’t eat/drink more than two tablespoons total of vinegar per day, that would be excessive.
1/2 cup pure, clean water
1/2 cup brewed stevia leaf tea
2 teaspoons raw apple cider vinegar
or
1 cup pure, clean water
4 drops liquid stevia extract)
2 teaspoons raw apple cider vinegar
Mix everything together, pour into a glass and enjoy at room temperature, sipping slowly.
Makes 1 serving.
Herbal Tonics
Ginger-Fennel-Peppermint Tonic (for gas & bloating)
Are you suffering from gas pain, flatulence or bloating after eating?
Changing your diet is the most important remedy, whether it’s candida related or not. Making proper dietary changes can take some time, so, in the meanwhile – herbal tonics this can be of some relief.
Use 1 teaspoon in a 1/4 cup of water before each meal, sipped slowly. You can also take this tonic between meals if you’re feeling gassy, followed by a glass of water.
1 inch piece organic fresh ginger root
1 heaping tablespoon organic fennel seeds
1 heaping tablespoon organic peppermint leaves (or loose peppermint tea)
1 cup raw apple cider vinegar
Roughly chop the ginger root. Put it in the blender with the fennel seeds, peppermint and vinegar. Blend thoroughly. Pour mixture into a clean glass jar with an airtight lid. Seal jar, wrap in a dark towel or cloth and store in a dark, cool cupboard for 2 weeks.
Strain liquid through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer and store the tincture in dark amber bottles with dropper lids, or any dark glass bottle with tight sealing top. Dropper tops are great for ease of use.
Herbal Tonics
Lemon Sea Salt Sipper
Thanks to my friend Bee for teaching me this amazingly simple recipe. The combination of fresh lemon or lime juice and sea salt forms a powerful tonic that aids digestion, re-hydrates through replenishing electrolytes, helps your body detoxify, as well as helps to pull nutrients from the foods we eat for better absorption.
Have one about 10 minutes before a meal, or any time you need
a little “pick me up”.
3/4 cup pure, clean water (a cup of water is 8 oz)
1 – 2 tablespoons fresh lemon or lime juice
1/4 teaspoon good grey sea salt
a tsp of yacon syrup or a few drops of liquid stevia extract to taste (optional)
Mix it all together in a glass until the sea salt is dissolved and sip slowly.
Herbal Tonics
Chlorophyll Cleanser Tonic
Chlorophyll is a great cleanser. If you don’t have access to a juicer and fresh leafy greens or if you lack the motivation to make fresh vegetable-leafy green juice combinations, try this easy health tonic instead.
1 tablespoon freeze dried barleygrass juice powder, or any high quality “super greens” type of powdered mix (no added sugars please), plus
1 cup water
or
1 tablespoon liquid chlorophyll (made from alfalfa), plus
1 cup pure, clean water
Just stir and sip it slowly. I love the barleygrass powder.
There’s a brand called Green Magma which I find to be
really delicious, it reminds me of the flavor of milk.
Herbal Tonics
Ginger-Garlic-Apple Cider Vinegar Tonic
Be warned. This is a powerful yeast buster!! Begin with very small amounts, especially if you are dealing with an overly yeasty condition, to minimize die-off reactions which can make you feel really sick.
Start with 5 drops in 1/4 cup water, followed by a glass of water, a few minutes before a meal, once or twice a day. Work up from there, along with making the proper dietary adjustments.
2 inch piece of organic fresh ginger – roughly chopped
5 large cloves garlic – roughly chopped
1 cup raw unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar
Place all three ingredients in a blender. Blend thoroughly. Add more vinegar if necessary. Pour mixture into a small, clean jar with an airtight lid. Seal jar. Wrap in a dark towel or cloth. Keep in a dark location like a cool cupboard or pantry for 2 weeks.
Strain liquid through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer and store the tincture in dark amber bottles with dropper lids, or any dark glass bottle with tight sealing top. Dropper tops are great for ease of use.
Once you’ve got the yeast situation under control through proper diet and lifestyle, you can use this health tonic recipe anytime you feel like something’s “off” about your immune system, like a cold coming on for instance. Use 10-20 drops of the tincture in a small amount of water, followed by a glass of water. Take it 2 or 3 or more times throughout the day and enjoy the results!
Five Alarm Super Cleanser Tonic
Okay, read the ingredients. This is not for the faint of heart, it’s HOT, pungent and potent! Its a great cleansing tonic and will do wonders in helping alleviate excess yeast.
Be warned. Like the ginger-garlic-apple cider vinegar tonic this is another powerful yeast buster!! I’ll reiterate what I mentioned above: Begin with very small amounts, especially if you are dealing with an overly yeasty condition, to minimize die-off reactions which can make you feel really sick.
Start with 5 drops in 1/4 cup of water, followed by a glass of water, once or twice a day, a few minutes before a meal. Work up from there, along with making the proper dietary adjustments.
Just be prepared for your mouth to feel fiery, your nose may run and your eyes are probably going to water for a minute. The flavor can linger on your breath for a while, so you might want to warn your family members or other loved ones 🙂
This health tonic recipe was passed on to me by a friend in California, she learned it at a health retreat. Whoever originally came up with this concoction surely understood the power of garlic, pungent, spicy roots & vegetables as natural cleansers, and must have been really motivated to clean out the pipes!
Everything organic if possible, please.
5 large garlic cloves
2 inches fresh ginger root
2 inches fresh horseradish root
2 habañero chili peppers
1 medium white onion
2 cups raw Unfiltered apple cider vinegar
Chop everything. Put it all in a blender with the vinegar and blend thoroughly. Add more vinegar if necessary. Pour mixture into a large, clean jar with an airtight lid. Seal the jar, wrap in a dark towel or cloth and store in a cool, dark spot like a cupboard or a pantry closet for 2 weeks.
Strain liquid through a cheesecloth or fine mesh strainer and store the tincture in dark amber bottles with dropper lids, or any dark glass bottle with tight sealing top. Dropper tops are great for ease of use.
